Robert Lee High School played host the 2024 1A District 11 & 12 Area Track & Field meet last week. Athletes qualified to compete by placing in the top 4 in each event from their district meets. From area, the top 4 in each event advanced to the 1A Region 2 meet to be held this weekend in San Angelo. Menard qualified 5 tracksters to the regional level.

Jackets clinch baseball playoff berth

Baseball is officially back in the playoffs! The MHS baseball program played a competitive game against Medina last week, ultimately dropping the contest 4-7. This puts the Yellowjackets at 2-2 in district, as runners up to district champion Medina (4-0).

Menard track programs excel at district meet

Menard hosted the 2024 12-A District track meet last Thursday, which included Eden, Panther Creek, Paint Rock, Olfen and Santa Anna. The Lady Jackets claimed the girls district champion title by a longshot with 263 total team points. Santa Anna was a distant second place with 115 team points. The Menard High School boys worked together to come out as district runners up with 139 points. First place Santa Anna tallied 219 points.

In post-season Yellowjacket basketball news, Menard had two players named to the boys Standard Times All West-Texas team. Joining the honors amongst athletes from San Angelo Lake View and Central High Schools, Menard senior Kade Rayburn was named first team All West-Texas, and senior Wyatt Terrell was named Honorable Mention.

Kothmann continues to rack up b-ball honors in senior year

Senior Lady Jacket basketball standout Makinley Kothmann spent her final year of play dominating the court. Kothmann was named District 12-1A Co-MVP after leading her team to a (co) district title and into a regional quarterfinal appearance. She averaged 19.7 points per game and 11.4 rebounds per game. On a typical hardwood outing this season she’d also rack up and average 4.1 But wait, there’s more! The gritty Lady Jacket was also named to first team of the Texas Association of Basketball Team (TABC) All-Region team, AND first team All-STATE by the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association. Of Makin-SEE ley’s honors Menard head coach Grant Gooch remarked- “It is always gratifying when other coaches recognize the true contributions that athletes make to their team's success.” In addition, the San Angelo Standard Times named Makinley to their all-encompassing, cream-of-the-crop All West-Texas Team. This team includes top selections from across West Texas, regardless of the size of the school. Makinley joins honorees from San Angelo Central (6A) and Wall (3A).

Menard 4-H rifles on the road

By 4-H shooting sports Leader Terry Kelley The Menard Rifles have been on the road recently, competing in two exceptionally challenging matches. While we saw mixed results, all shooters gained valuable experience which will make a big difference in future matches this year.
