Menard County 4-H is sponsoring a rabies clinic for cats and dogs, this Saturday, July 10.
The clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the Murchison/Whitehead Memorial Youth Complex on Highway 190 W.
Rabies vaccinations are $10 for both cats and dogs. Canine rattlesnake vaccination is $15. Canine Distemper/Parvo/ Adenovirus/Corona/Leptospira is $20.
In a rural area such as Menard, it is important to keep pets up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations.
County AgriLife Agent Lisa Brown reminds readers that in recent years, wild animals accounted for 92.7% of reported cases of rabies. Bats were the most frequently reported rabid wildlife species with 33% of all animal cases in 2018, according to the CDC. Wild animals contributing to statistics, that our pets are more likely to come in contact with, are raccoons, skunks and a small percentage of fox cases.
