The Yellowjacket baseball team is riding high after Menard’s decisive 13-7 win over Spurger in the regional quarterfinal round of Class A state baseball playoffs last week. Friday’s victory was the first baseball playoff win in 20 years for Menard. “It was a huge win for our program,” said head coach Will Barker, who took on the task of reviving the baseball program 4 years ago.

Menard High School senior Wyatt Terrell is currently in San Antonio for the boys singles tournament portion of the state championships. Terrell's first match takes place Thursday morning (May 16) at 8 a.m. at the Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio. The first match is the state quarterfinal round. A win in the quarterfinal round will see Wyatt advance to the semifinals and play at 4 Thursday afternoon. Congratulations to the Junior High Tennis Team! After all matches were played and points were tallied, Menard Junior High Girls and Junior High Boys teams were each named District Champs at the district meet held in Santa Anna.

The district champion Lady Jackets softball team will face Eula this week in the area round of playoffs. The series begins at 5 p.m. Thursday at Lake View High School in San Angelo. Game two will follow 30 minutes after the completion of game one. If a third game is necessary, it is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. The team toppled Marfa, in McCamey 13-7 last week for the bi-district title. LET’S GO, LADY JACKETS!
