Menard County 4-H held its annual style show on Wednesday, June 30. The show was held at the Menard High School Auditorium to an audience of adoring family members and friends.
The participating 4-H members were all a part of the free sewing camp held in early June, hosted by the county. Ages 5 and up were invited to learn the basics of sewing. Some older campers were more experienced and worked on more difficult stitching skills. Kathy Mews and Dora Wright were the adult volunteers, both of whom dedicated much time and effort to the kids and their projects.
Beginners each crafted either a pair of shorts or a skirt with elastic waistband. Advanced projects included flare jeans (Mia), a wool dress and matching blazer (Mackenzie), and a crisp dress cut on the bias and finished with the serger for added difficulty (Izzy). Caitlyn and Claire doubled up to create matching rompers with elastic waists and buttons at the sides.
Third graders and up are eligible for the district show to be held on July 13 in Brady. Sewing camp participants who were unable to attend last week’s show are Juliette Johanson and Benjamin Burch.
