TSGRA names Menard’s Brown Outstanding County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources

KERRVILLE, TX- Lisa Brown was recently named the Outstanding County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources by the Texas Sheep & Goat Raisers Association (TSGRA). Brown is in her 8th year as extension service in Menard County.

Lisa Runge Brown attended Texas A&M University where she received her agricultural economics degree in 1995. After travelling the world with her Marine husband Michael, Lisa began working with the Menard Extension Office as the 4-H coordinator in 2007 and then began her career as the Menard County Extension Agent for Agricultural and Natural Resources in 2014.

Lisa grew up in Menard County on the Runge Ranch west of Menard where cattle, sheep and goats were raised. Lisa is very interested in ranch management and sheep and goat production. She currently runs a commercial goat herd along with her cattle operation.

Brown has hosted several Livestock Guardian Dog Workshops in Menard County highlighting these animals and their importance to producers as a tool in saving the industry from predation. She has also been involved in result demonstrations researching livestock guard dogs and their behaviors and travel patterns on the Martin Ranch in Menard. Lisa serves as an advisor to the Menard County Game and Livestock Protection Association.

On the state level, Lisa has served on the planning committee for the Texas Sheep and Goat Expo for the past three years.

Lisa places great importance on the need to bring awareness of agriculture and stewardship to our youth. She has brought the Kids, Kows and More program to Menard youth as well as regularly bringing live animals to school to teach the kids “All about Goats/sheep” with hands on presentations. She helps many youths on the local level with their lamb and goat 4-H projects.

Lisa is married to Michael, and they have three children, Chris (23), Danielle (20) and Roy (16). All three kids have been involved with sheep and goats in 4-H and Roy has his own commercial goat herd and is a Jr. TSGRA member.
