Last Friday night, October 22, the Menard high School football travelled to Miles for their 3rd district football game.
Both teams were 1-1 in district going into the contest. “Our kids were extremely motivated going into this game and fought hard,” said head coach Justin Gorman. “We made some mistakes, but we also did a lot of things really well.”
Menard’s defense forced multiple turnovers and the -offensive line blocked exceptionally well. This allowed #15, junior standout Joel Guerrero, to have an incredible game. Guerrero finished the night with 292 yards rushing on 30 attempts, 1 reception for 4 yards, 2 kickoff returns for 45 yards, 9 tackles, and 3 pass breakups. “To win these tough district games, we have to learn to minimize our mistakes. Some mistakes come from an outstanding play from a kid on the other team, but the unforced errors on our part were the ones that really made the difference in the game,” said Gorman. “Hopefully we learn from this experience, and we can come out on top of the next close game.”
The Yellowjackets’ next game will be this Friday, October 29, at Findlay Field in Menard at 7:30p.m. against the Eldorado Eagles (2-1). It will be Senior Night.
