Rescue Me Chili Cook Off Winners

After skipping a few years due to COVID-19, the Menard Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Me Chili Cookoff drew a large crowd at the city park on Saturday, October 23. Participants has several opportunities to shine; competitions included chili, hot wings, Bloody Mary cocktails, hot sauce, beans, stuffed jalapeño, mystery dish, and the Lou Ann Rogers Memorial Dessert categories. The washer pitching tournament and kids Super Nacho Competition were cancelled due to lack of participation. The Corn Hole Tournament went on as planned. Several good sports spent some time in the dunking booth to raise money for the cause, kids and adults alike enjoyed repeatedly dunking them. A beautiful day by the river set the perfect stage for the fundraiser and DJ Maggie Mae Slaughter Wand kept the tunes cranked up.

The top three participants in each category were recognized with a certificate and the winner of each category was also presented with a MVFD Rescue Me Chili Cook-off apron. Bloody Mary- 3rd place, Horney Toad Ranch, Guy Waggoner and Tori Waggoner; 2nd place, Our Chili Team, Mandy Bushell and Skeet Rogers; 1st place- TNT Cookers, Clint and Tina Gramm. Hot Sauce- 3rd place, Glenda and Dudley, Glenda and Dudley Tipton; 2nd place-Double O, Juan and Brook Segura; 1st place- Our Chili Team, Mandy Bushell and Skeet Rogers. Stuffed Jalapeños- 3rd place, Our Chili Team, Mandy Bushell and Skeet Rogers; 2nd place Horney Toad Ranch, Guy Waggoner and Tori Waggoner; 1st place, Double O, Juan and Brook Segura. Hot Wings- 3rd place, Double O, Juan and Brook Segura; 2nd place- Teabags, Beau and Tracy Tipton; 1st place, TNT Cookers, Clint and Tina Gramm. Beans- 3rd place, TNT Cookers, Clint and Tina Gramm; 2nd place, Our Chili Team, Mandy Bushell and Skeet Rogers; 1st place, Double O, Juan and Brook Segura. The Mystery Dish only crowned one winner, Our Chili Team, Mandy Bushell and Skeet Rogers with their secret pork chili dish. The Lou Ann Rogers Memorial Dessert Contest also only awarded one winner, in addition to their certificate and apron, the winning team was awarded $250 sponsored by The Menard News, Our Chili Team, Mandy Bushell with Sopapilla Cheesecake. Our Chili team donated the cash prize back to the Menard Volunteer Fire Department. Chili- 3rd place, Our Chili Team, Mandy Bushell and Skeet Rogers; 2nd place, Teabags, Beau and Tracy Tipton; 1st place, TNT Cookers, Clint and Tina Gramm. TNT Cookers were also awarded $1,000 sponsored by Findaranch.com and donateed half back to the fire department.

The MVFD next’s fundraiser will be the Predator Hunt after deer season.
