Rita Greer Tillman Leonard, 77, passed away on September 24, 2024 in Junction, Texas. Born on January 2, 1947, Rita was a proud graduate of Robert Lee High School, where she was the valedictorian of her class.

She had a lifelong love of reading evident by her impressive library. Rita was a talented artist known for her beautiful and intricate Victorian Christmas ornaments. Her love for games, particularly dominoes and bingo, brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. Rita was affectionately known as the “West Texas Domino Queen,” a title she earned from playing at the Menard Manor.

She is survived by her siblings, Sadie Tillman Davidson (Cuatro), Mark Tillman (Kay), Lida Tillman Scharton, and Anne Tillman Jones (Joe), as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will miss her dearly. She was “Nana” to Shep and Staten Silvers whom she considered her “grandchildren”.

Rita was preceded in death by her father whom she lost at a young age, Bernley Greer, her mother, Neta Rucker Greer Tillman, and her “Daddy,”Frank Tillman.

Rita's life was marked by her artistic spirit, intellectual curiosity, and the joy she brought to her family and friends. She will be remembered for her bright smile, sharp wit, contagious laughter and generous heart. Rita's legacy will live on in the beautiful ornaments she created and the memories she made with her loved ones.

Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff and nurses at Menard Manor and Kimble Hospital, as well as Dr. Jackson for their love and care of Rita throughout her time in Kimble and Menard Counties and especially during her respite care the past week.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Kimble County Library would be greatly appreciated.
