Barbara Rue Kothmann passed away at the age of 90 on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, peacefully in her home in Menard, Texas. She was born on November 9, 1933, to Stockton and Evelyn Cannon. She attended Baylor University, and married Carleton Kothmann on July 5, 1954. They were married 70 years. She and Carleton were blessed with three sons: Kirk, Eric, and Kyle. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her love for our Savior, Jesus Christ, was demonstrated by her affection and love for her husband and family. Their children often remind their children that they never heard Mamaw and Granddad arguing or fighting while growing up.
Barbara Rue played the organ, sang, and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church for many years. She had a gift of hospitality and could effortlessly entertain in her home making everyone feel welcomed and loved. She was a wonderful, caring, and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Even though she suffered from functional Alzheimer’s for the last 15 years, she remained peaceful and pleasant continuing to be a blessing to everyone.
Barbara Rue is preceded in death by her parents: Stockton and Evelyn Cannon; her brother, Richard (Dick) Cannon, MD; her oldest son, Kirk Kothmann, DVM; her grandson, William Kothmann; and her great-grandson, Kallan Kothmann. She is survived by: her husband, Carleton Kothmann; daughterin- law, Theressa Kothmann; Eric and Connie Kothmann; and Kyle and Melissa Kothmann.
She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Whitney Kothmann, Lance Kothmann and Nicole, Stephanie Kothmann, Blake and Kathryn Kothmann and sons, Kline and Jack; James and Makenzie Kothmann and daughters, Brooklyn and Jane; Bo and Abby Kothmann and son, Hudson; Clayton and Chloe Kothmann; Ty and Hannah Kothmann; Katherine and Spencer Hahn and daughter, Amelia.
The family would like to thank Paula Kothmann, Pam Peters, Anna Hernandez, and PK Sanchez for all their love, patience, and care they gave to Barbara Rue. They would also like to thank the hospice staff: Brandon James, Kimberly Robles, and Johnnie Frausto.
To celebrate her life, a memorial service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 301 Tipton St., Menard, Texas.
