AMERICAN LEGION PARK is the site of the traditional PTO Veterans Day Parade and Auction. The park also houses a war monument dedicated to and recognizing Menard County war veterans from WWI, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. There is also a memorial to Marine Corps General Oliver Prince Smith, who has been specifically commended for his brave actions during both WWII and Korea. Smith, born in Menard in 1893, retired as a 4-Star General. He passed in 1977. TMN photo.
November 11 is the day for Menard’s annual Veterans’ Day Parade and Auction sponsored by the PTO, an over 80year long tradition. Festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the parade, which has the theme “Travel Texas.”
