The cool weather has come, and we are looking forward to watching the leave turn colors and begin to fall. We will begin enjoying apple cider and hot chocolate soon. I would like to thank everyone that donated candy for Halloween.
This week we will begin making our angel ornaments to on the Angel Tree at both banks in MEnard. These angel ornaments can be purchased at either bank to raise money for the resident’s Christmas presents. Our annual Christmas celebration will be on Wednesday December 22nd at noon. We would love to have you join us for our Christmas meal and celebration. Please contact Cheryle Spoons if you plan on joining us for our Christmas celebration. The Manor Resident of the Month is Litane “Granny” Kothmann.
Litany Brooks Landers was born on March 28th in 1930 in Brownwood, TX. Her parent were Tillman and Olga Landers. She spent her early years on a ranch in Ft. Mc-Kavett. Her family moved to Menard when she started school. Litane graduated from Menard High School in 1948. Litane went to Sul Ross University and Women’s college in Denton, Texas. Litane met and fell in love with Calvin “NOOK” Kothmann and married him in 1955. She had 5 children, 3 girls, and 2 boys who grew up and attended school in Menard, as well. Litane known in Menard as “Granny” has 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildern, and 1 great great grandchild.
Litane and Nook raised their children on the Whitehead Ranch here in Menard. Roping nad rodeos were two of their favorite things to do. Litane was always active in Fort McKavett Fire Department. She loves to talk to anyone and everyone, treats everyone as family. Litane loved to be outside and dishing with her children and grandchildren. If you were ever wanting some fresh homemade bread, she would make it daily. She could fill your belly, with a wonderful meal as well. At the age of 76 she entered the 12-mile kayak race and won a medal for being the oldest contestant.
Now Litane spends her days at Menard Manor snacking on her sweets and loving on Sylvester the cat. She enjoys her visits from family nad friends, and staff often sit in her room because she always welcomes everyone with a smile. Staff love to visit with her about adventures she went on through her life. Her smile brightens our workday, and her feisty personality keeps us on our toes.
The Manor Employee of the Month is Marissah Healey, CNA/Dietary Aide. Marissah started working in our housekeeping department, became a CNA, and now is a dietary aide. Marissah helps in all departments wherever she is needed. We appreciate you.
Joeseph Maligaya PT, has taken over as our rehab director. We are very happy to have him at Menard Manor. Douglas Morgan has joined our rehab team for 13 weeks as a COTA.
Dietay News: Rachel Montes has returned as our Director of Food and Nutrition Services. WE have seen many improvements in the dietary department and continue to work on the quality of our food.
Nursing News: Congratulations to Courtney Garner, CNA for passing her state certified nurse aide exam and skills test.
