The year’s first positive rabies case in Menard County has been confirmed in a young goat.
During a routine bottle-feeding approximately 2 weeks ago, a rancher 4 miles west of Menard noticed a distinct skunk odor on one of several bottle-fed dogie kid goats. Further inspection revealed bite wounds to the goat’s nose. Skunks are the primary source of rabies in Texas.
