Naval veteran Mr. Jimmy Brooks of Menard earned several medals for his service as Hanger Deck Chief aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard in 1967 during the Vietnam War. Honors earned were the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal (with 3 clusters) and a US Navy Honorable Discharge pin. Although the honors were listed on Brooks’s discharge papers, he was never issued medals.
