Lady Jacket signs to dribble and jump for Pratt Community College in Kansas

Jalyn Montes, the lone senior of the Lady Jacket ’21-’22 basketball team, has signed to be a 2-sport college athlete. Montes will be competing in basketball and track at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas.

Jalyn plans to study criminal justice with the goal to one day work as a social worker. She hopes to make a difference not only in Menard, but the surrounding communities.

In the ’21-’22 basketball season Jalyn averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. Overall Jalyn scored 1,643 points during her high school career with the Lady Jackets.

On the high school track she qualified in multiple events to the area and regional meets. At Pratt she will specialize in triple jump. Her triple jump personal record is 34 feet.

Girls’ head basketball coach Saman tha Bell said, “We are sad to see her go but are excited that she will be representing Menard and the Lady Jackets at the next level!

Jalyn would like to thank her community. “Thank you, Menard, for helping me experience great things - friends, family, and all of the support from the folks who always took the time out of their day to go to a basketball game or a track meet,” she said.

“I hope with this opportunity I was given helps more people at Menard High School to accomplish more and push themselves to know that their dreams can come true. On a summer or small break I have from school, I plan to come to Menard to help the future athletes in camps that they participate in to help accomplish their dreams.” Jalyn is the daughter or Raymond and Rachel Montes.
