The Texas Master Naturalist, Hill Country Chapter continues to have in-person Monthly Chapter Meetings. Our next Chapter Meeting and Advanced Training session is open to the public and will be held on Monday, October 24. Our monthly Chapter Meetings and Advanced Training sessions are HYBRID. This means you have the option to attend in-person (at Upper Guadalupe River Authority in Kerrville), via Zoom or Live Stream via Facebook. Pre-registration is required to attend the chapter meeting session via Zoom. Doors open at UGRA at 6 pm for snacks and socializing. A short business meeting will be held at 6:30pm and the Advanced Training session is from 7:10 PM to 8:10 PM. There is no cost to attend. The UGRA Building is located at 125 Lehmann Drive, Suite 100 in Kerrville.
Biological Control of Aquatic Vegetation- P r e senter: Brittany Chesser This presentation will cover the background of classical and nonclassical biological control for well known aquatic vegetation species. This will include the introduction of insects (weevils, beetles) and herbivorous fish (tilapia sp., triploid grass carp), along with current regulations and research in these areas.
Brittany Chesser is the Aquatic Vegetation Management Program Specialist for Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service. Being a Delaware native, Brittany graduated from Delaware State University with her B.S. in Natural Resources. She later received her M.S. in Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture at Mississippi State University working on commercial-scale lowsalinity culture techniques for Gulf Killifish. Currently in her role at TAMU, she provides technical expertise on aquatic vegetation management to the general public through identifying specific plant species, recommending correct management practices, and delivering presentations; along with serving as the Lab Specialist for the TAMU Aquatics Diagnostic Laboratory. She has recently started working towards her doctorate at Texas A&M University.
About the Hill Country Chapter: Texas Master Naturalist, Hill Country Chapter is one of 48 regional Texas Master Naturalist volunteer corps. Our chapter includes 10 counties: Bandera, Ed-wards, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Mason, Menard, Real and San Saba. Members receive comprehensive training in natural resource management specific to the Texas Hill Country and volunteer in a wide variety of community projects.
