After a hard-fought loss to class 2-A San Saba last week, the Lady Jackets recovered to eke out a 41-39 win against another good 2-A Brady Lady Bulldog team last Saturday in Brady.
Junior Makinley Kothmann led the team with 15 points, while senior Mackenzie Wagner put up 12. Sophomores Korah Mayfield and Tatum Ruiz did a stellar job defensively. Addy Bannowsky, senior, pulled down some consistent rebounds to give the Lady Jackets a solid starting five. Additionally, Kristen Portilla and Zoe Castleberry made a positive impact coming off the bench. “Overall, I’m so proud of the girls and their great team effort in a hard-fought win,” said head coach Samantha Bell.
The Lady Jackets were on the road to Cherokee on Tuesday, Nov. 15. started out slow but came away with a 47-16 win. Next on the schedule is the Eden tournament this weekend.
With the official conclusion of football season last Thursday, Yellowjacket basketball players began practice on Monday, November 14. Head coach Jeff Campbell remarked: “We have had a good turnout for basketball and the guys are working hard and eager to learn and prepare for the season.” The MHS boys will start their season on the road in Grape Creek this Friday, November 18.
