Easter Helicopter Egg Drop News (and apology)

With Easter upon us, next Sunday, April 5, I have some not-so-good news but also some good news to follow up with. The not-so-good: This year The Menard News and Menard Youth Initiative will not be hosting the annual Helicopter Easter Egg Drop at the Presidio de San Saba. The cause is two-fold: this month my grandmother turned 98. The egg drop has prevented my family from attending her Easter gathering for the past couple of years, and I feel strongly that we need to be there this year.

Secondly, the Easter Bunny’s helicopter is in the shop, not expected to be in flight shape by Good Friday. In consideration of those two occurrences, we plan to resume the annual event next year, as circumstances allow. We do apologize for the disruption to what has become an anticipated day for the area’s little egg collectors. Now for the good news: To bridge the gap of our cancellation, Sacred Heart Catholic Church has revived their community egg hunt which will be Saturday, April 4 at American Legion Park. See page 2 for details.

Club Victoria will once again be holding their annual Good Friday Fish Fry, so be sure to stop by there for a good Friday lunch. Ha ha. See what I did there?

Any donations already made to the news office and MYI will be saved for next year, unless the church group is able to utilize the supplies for their community egg hunt next weekend.

In summary, we hate to miss the Easter Bunny in the helicopter this year, but your little ones’ egg hunt dreams can still be realized thanks to the Catholic church!
