Allen Walter Hillert of Menard, Texas passed away after a short illness on Friday, December 26, 2025 at the Menard Manor at the age of 84.
Allen was born to Walter and Hulda (Borchers) Hillert on December 23, 1941 in New Braunfels, Texas.
Allen was a lifelong rancher.
Even though it was unfortunate the untimely death of his father from a tractor accident in April of 1972. Allen was also greatly blessed to become the new ranch owner at a young age. He already had a passion for theAngus Breed and ended up winning many awards for the quality of the livestock he produced over the years. Allens mother also passed away at a young age in 1959. This allowed Allen to continue to foster his already special relationship with is paternal grandmother Louise Brehmer Hillert. He often spoke about all the time he spent with her and how much he valued her wisdom and love. He also enjoyed nine pin bowling at the Mission Valley Bowling club while his young son Walden worked setting up the pins in the old timey style bowling alley. He was always up for hunting, and playing dominoes with friends. He enjoyed stock shows and helping his kids learn the ropes to show properly and win. When New Braunfels over grew around 1990, Allen decided to move the ranch business to Menard, Texas. This is where he continued ranching until his health deteriorated.
He married Frances Jane Preiss on March 21, 1963 in Blanco, Tx. She preceded him in death on July 5, 1985 in New Braunfels after 8.5 years of cancer treatment where Allen lovingly cared for her. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister Kathleen Emma Hillert.
Allen is survived by his children, sons Sydney Bruce (Tammara) Hillert of New Braunfels and Walden Booth (Kelly) Hillert of Menard. His daughter Colleen Lee (Jamie) Friar of Brady. His sister Ann Lou Tschirhart of McKinney and a special friend Elva Holmes of Brady. He also had 2 grandsons Justin and Jeffrey Friar. And 2 granddaughters Heather and Haleigh Hillert. Only 1 great granddaughter Kayla Friar. The amount of step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins are numerous though.
A visitation and viewing were held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels on Friday January 2, 2026, with a funeral service that followed. From there a procession took place from the funeral home service to Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park for a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, he would like donations made in his name to the Mission Valley Community Center in New Braunfels, the Menard Volunteer Fire Dept. or a charity of your choice.
