Former Yellowjacket is lifting the bar for ASU

Menard High School Class of 2020 graduate Joshua Rayburn recently competed in the Texas State Championship powerlifting meet.

Rayburn finished the meet 9/9, meaning he did not miss a single attempt. The weight on squat was 237.5 kilos (532 lbs); bench press was 130 kilos (286 lbs); deadlift 217.5 kilos (479 lbs), for a total of 535 kilograms. This earned Josh first place as a collegiate 120 kilo lifter representing Angelo State University (ASU).

The next competition for Rayburn is the Big Horn Bash on January 22, hosted by ASU Ram Powerlifting. There, his goal is to achieve his qualifying total in order to make the Collegiate National meet, held in Illinois March 2022.

Joshua is the son of Walter Rayburn and the grandson of Herman and Betty Rayburn, all of Menard.
