In the Free State of Menard, some things are still not freeas in anything that is not actually your property. Recently, some individuals have had a hard time with that concept. Let the following accounts be a warning to all residents to keep your belongings locked up when possible and do not leave keys in your vehicles. Let’s look out for each other. A business owner reported a theft from the 200 block of Frisco Street, over the July 4th holiday weekend. Subject (s) siphoned diesel out of a vehicle’s fuel tank.
A local business owner was attempting to sell a Ford Expedition that had been parked at his business location in the 700 block of Frisco Street. Upon starting the vehicle, he noticed it was running unusually loud. After further inspection, the catalytic converter was missing. It is believed to have been stolen around the July 10th.
According to victims, in the early morning hours of July 11, a resident of Junction was leaving a family gathering in Menard, and happened upon a 1995 Ford Ranger (with the keys inside). The suspect stole the Ranger from a residence in the 300 block of Scruggs. The suspect then drove South on Tipton Avenue where the vehicle was driven into afence post on the 1000 block of Tipton. The Ranger high centered, rendering it undrivable. At this time, the individual abandoned the stolen truck. Left behind in the Ranger was assorted drug paraphernalia and a bottle of Wild Turkey bourbon. The suspect proceeded to trespass on foot through the yard, behind the house, and down the residence where they took a 2005 GMC Yukon, also with the keys in it.
Sometime after 4:30 a.m. the homeowner in the 1000 block of Tipton received a phone call from the Brady Police Department. The Brady PD called to ask if the victim had loaned their vehicle to anyone. At this point the homeowner looked outside and realized their vehicle was gone.
The Brady Police department had been called by a clerk at a local gas station when the clerk witnessed a visibly intoxicated individual buying fuel. After confirmation from the registered owner that the Yukon was in fact stolen, the individual was arrested.
According to the McCulloch County jail log, 33-yearold Angelina Guana was booked on July 11, 2021 for unknown charges. Guana has since bonded out.
