"Texplorer" Chet Garner and his crew visited Menard earlier this year and The Daytripper episode is ready to watch! Thursday, October 10, you can catch the earliest showing available at the street/watch party at Summerland Public House. They are open all day; showing is at 8 p.m. This initial airing will be streamed from Austin's PBS station, KLRU. The episode will be aired across the state on Saturday. Details below.
From the well-known landmarks to the completely obscure dives and hideaways, ‘The Daytripper’ is a popular television show that follows Texas explorer, "Texplorer" Chet Garner around the Lone Star State. And this summer, Garner “discovered” Menard.
The Daytripper crew filmed at the Presidio de San Saba, Texas Scratch Kitchen, Summerland Public House, and Fort McKavett. Chet even took a dip in the San Saba River at the storied 8-Mile crossing. “This episode was so fun to film, and it's going to be a hit with our viewers! Thanks for all your hospitality and help making this episode happen,” remarked a Daytripper producer.
Menard’s episode compiles two days’ worth of discovering and exploring the area, and it will initially air this Thursday, October 10, 2024, on Austin’s PBS station KLRU at 8 p.m. It will air around the state on Saturday, October 12 on local PBS channels.
If you are unable to access an Austin PBS station but would still like to view the episode you are in luck. Local eateries and neighbors Summerland Public House and Texas Scratch Kitchen will be throwing a watch party on West Mission St. between the two businesses. Join Menard residents and folks who were involved in the show for a public screening at 8 p.m. Summerland is open for food and drinks Thursday 11:30-10, so plan to arrive before the show. You can eat, drink, and mingle at the street party style community gathering. Texas Scratch Kitchen will not be open extended hours but will be present with refreshments available while they last.
If you cannot make Thursday’s viewing of the Menard episode, and do not have access to PBS, the show will be published to The Daytripper’s YouTube channel on Monday October 14.
