Tom McGill Jones of Hext, Texas age 91 died Wednesday, May 16, 2024, of old age causes. He was the fifth born child to John Hamilton Jones and Verre Westbrook Jones.
As a boy he grew up on Elm Creek and Hext. He went into the U.S. Army at the age of 18. He was in the Korean War in 1951 and 1952. He was in the 52nd Field Artillery of the 24th Division and attached to the 21st Infantry reg. He fought in the Hwacheon Reservoir battle and the Heartbreak Ridge battle, later went back to Japan, stayed a few months and came home. Then he worked for the city of Lubbock, Texas Water Utilities for 19 years and retired there. His second wife Hazel Hughes jones died then, and he returned to Hext. He stock farmed then for 28 years raising sheep and goats. He loved fiddles and knew and played a lot of good old time fiddle tunes. He outlived his musical friends. He played a lot with his friend Jack Goff of Mason.
He is preceded by his father and mother, a sister Merle Smith, a sister Billie Louise Norris, a brother John H. Jones Jr.
He is survived by a sister Bobbie Econimidas and children of San Angleo, a daughter Brenda McAnaugh of Llano, Tx, a step-son James Flutsch and son Shane Flutsch of Abilene, Tx, a step son Christopher Flutsch of Chattanooga, Tn., a dear granddaughter, Anna Kline and husband Brad Kline of Marble Falls, two grandsons Brandon and Logan Guerrero of Llano a granddaughter Katelyn Garcia and husband Michael Garcia of Granit Shoals, two great – grandchildren Braylen Guerrero and Miia Garcia, a niece Bonnie Crawford of Alabama, a niece Laura Slaughter and husband Caleb Slaughter of Menard, his loving wife of 24 years, Christine Barker Jones of the home, a sister-in-law Corretta Russell and family of Las Vegas, sister-in-law Fay Barker of Junction, and his small dog Peewee.
He will be missed. Visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 AM Friday, May 24, 2024, at Heritage Funeral Home of Menard.
Graveside service will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Menard.
Pallbearers will be Michael Garcia, Logan Guerrero, Brandon Guerrero, Brad Kline, Stan McIntire, James Fultsch.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Menard.
