Scott Gregory Black was born at home in Mason, Texas, to Topsy Johnson and Wade Black on May 28,1939. He left us on a beautiful sunny afternoon October 1, 2025.
Scott graduated from Mason High and joined the Army the same day, serving three years at White Sands Missile Range as a Military Policeman. He settled into a career he loved for 32 years as a Game Warden for the state of Texas. He was stationed in San Angelo, Iraan, Fort Davis, Encinal, and finished up in Menard, Texas, making many lifelong friends along the way.
Scott was a relentless coyote hunter, decent fiddle player, happy to show you his all-around cowboy buckle, average golfer and proud dad and Opa. He followed his son Jesse and grandkids Nickolas and Kim to all kinds of events. Then he bought a motorcycle and he and Linda, his wife of 57 years, road off to fun and adventure where he won an Iron Butt award for riding 1,000 miles in 24 hours.
Sunday found him in his pew at the Methodist Church before racing off to Abuelo‘s for lunch and soft serve.
Left to enjoy the memories are wife Linda Oestreich Black; daughter Stacy and Mike; grandson Nicholas and Brittany; granddaughter Kimberly and Josh; great grandkids Noah, Eden and Olive. Also, sisters-in-law Brenda and Becky, and numerous nieces and nephews. Waiting for him were his mom and dad; son Jesse; brothers Larry and Don; and nephew James.
On Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 3:30 p.m., there will be a gathering to enjoy soft serve ice cream at Los Abuelo’s restaurant in Menard, to celebrate a life lived on his own terms and in his special way.
