Marion Wade Stokes

Body

Marion Wade Stokes, age 76, of Lytle, Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in San Antonio after a brave battle with Parkinson’s/Dementia. Marion was born on December 7, 1948, in San Angelo, Texas, to S.H. Stokes and Wynona (Hutcherson) Scroggins. He grew up in Sonora Tx where he graduated from High School and then attended Tarleton State University. He worked in oil field sales for many years, retiring in 2020. Wade married Susan Decker on October 22, 1972, in San Angelo (Ciudad Acuna) and spent the next 52 years with the love of his life, travel companion and best friend.

Wade always put his family first. Whether it was sports, rodeo, hunting, or playing golf, he always had his two boys with him. His sons, Cody and Matt, were his pride and joy. If he could have them with him, they would be there. He made sure he was the one teaching them to drive (by the ripe old age of 5), to shoot a gun and swing a golf club, but most importantly, what he taught them was how to become good men, loving husbands and fathers. Loving his family is what Wade was best at.

His favorite thing to talk about was his 1966 Sonora Bronco State Football Championship. Pretty sure the last rendition he told, had the players exhibiting superpowers. Anyone who knew Wade knows he never met a stranger. Anywhere he went, there would be somebody that he knew. It was one of his greatest attributes.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marion Wade Stokes will be held at 11:00 am, July 21, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Menard with Father Woodruff officiating. Inter-ment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Menard. The Family will be having lunch at Los Abuelos following the service and would love for you to join them, followed by visitation at the Decker home, 602 Bevans Street.

Wade Stokes is survived by his loving wife, of over 52 years, Susan Stokes of Lytle, Texas; sons Cody Stokes and wife Julie of Lytle, Texas; Matt Stokes and wife Meredith of Devine, Texas; grandchildren Kade, Miller, Grant and Griffin; brother in law Larry Decker and wife Marry; sisters-in-law Lisa Decker; Judy Harris and husband Marshall, and many more family and friends.
