Nita Lou Hight

Body

Nita Lou Clapp was called to her Maker to join the Heavenly Host April 4, 2023.

She was born to parents, Ray Clapp and Pauline McKee-Clapp on October 8, 1930.

As a child, she would tell strangers she was born in the jail house in Kermit Texas. Truth be told, her father was the Sheriff of Winkler County and their family resided ABOVE the jail house.

Nita is survived by her husband of 66 years, Billy W Hight, resident of Erna Texas, her daughter Keetia Hight-Sharabba, son-in law Rob Sharabba, and beloved grandson Aiden Sharabba. Keetia and her husband reside in Houston and Aiden is a Sophomore at UT Austin.

Nita was a graduate of London High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Galveston Texas. Nita became a registered nurse, and practiced in many different nursing fields including delivery, operating and psychiatric ward nursing. Nita had the true gift of comforting others and understanding others needs when they could not articulate for themselves.

In 1956, she along with two of her nursing school roommates, applied and were accepted for nurses’ positions in the wild west, Odessa, Texas. This is when Nita met her future husband, Bill Hight.

In 1971, Bill was offered a job in Houston, so off the family went. Bill bought half interest in an industrial painting and protective coating business and Nita retired from nursing after her daughter was born. Nita took up bowling and bridge and became director of the Houston Bowling Association and served till 1991, when Nita and Bill moved back to Bills grandfather’s old farmhouse built in 1900 in Erna TX. Nita never cheated at bridge but might have bent the rules when playing solitaire rumor has it Once settled, she immediately became the bridge Queen of London and Junction. Nita and Bill joined the Church of Christ in London and began the charity work of re-building our community centers. It is in our prayers we served the community well.
