Patsy Barker passed away on September 25, 2021 in the Menard Manor, Menard Texas. She was born to Ves and Lucy Powell on the Powell homestead just south of the 8-mile crossing in Menard on December 10, 1926. She was the last member of the Powell generation born there in 1910-1930s.
Patsy graduated from Menard High School in 1944 and married John L. “Spotty” Gibbs in 1950. They lived in Oklahoma and Texas. She loved the outdoors, the “River,” and taking care of her family. She also loved travelling and visited Germany, Japan, Alaska, Vermont, and Hawai’i to name just a few. She was a terrific fisherwoman, even winning a bass fishing tournament in St Johns River in Florida. Patsy also was a great trapping companion with Spotty.
She was a person that everybody loved and had many wonderful friends over her life.
But more than anything, she loved dancing. We are pretty sure she danced into heaven to the tune of “Waltz Across Texas.”
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers (J.T., Joe and Carroll), her husbands Spotty Gibbs and Wilburn Barker, and her partner Sam (Skip) Skipworth.
She is survived by her daughters Susan Hatfield of Mesquite, Patricia (Edward) Lackey and Moverine (Marcus Bradley) Ellis of Menard and John (Elaine) Gibbs of Lexington TX, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was loved dearly by her children and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her GG.
The family will hold a private graveside service. There will be a celebration of life October 9th at the Stockpen Crossing Park Pavilion.
The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for their loving care, Sarai RNCM, Elena PCM, Ann CNA, Sherri and Stephanie On-call RNs, Dr. Vicki Forlano, and Dr. Brenda Owens.
